For Sale - Beautiful historic castle in the heart of the Belgian Ardennes
Château Mirwart is situated in Mirwart (Saint-Hubert), in the province of Luxembourg, Wallonia, Belgium.
The castle is built on a rock rising above the "Vallée de la l’Homme". The oldest parts of the castle, part of the cellars, date back to the 7th century.
Nevertheless the castle Mirwart was for the first time mentioned in the beginning of the 11th century
During the numerous conflicts between Spain, Austria and France in the 17th and 18th centuries the castle was damaged several times. It was only at the end of the 18th century that a long undisturbed period began and that extensive renovations and embellishments could be undertaken. During this process the castle gradually lost its strongly fortified character.
At the beginning of the 19th century the château turned into a beautiful manor.
After World War II, the castle was acquired by the province of Luxembourg. The building was renovated but the province failed to find a use for it.
As a result, little by little, the castle was neglected and was subsequently looted by vandals who removed valuable furniture and decorative fittings from the interior.
The current owner bought the castle from the Province of Luxembourg and made extensive restoration plans who are yet to be executed.
These restoration plans will give back all its glory and splendor to this historically important castle that dominates the village of Mirwart.
The roofs of the outbuildings have already been restored and are in excellent condition again.
There is a possibility to create 45 bedrooms with bathrooms. 5 to 6 lounges are situated on the groundfloor.
