Known for miles around as Chateau Malmont, and historically as the Chateau Rouge this beautiful 15th century oak framed Manor plus two houses and outbuildings all set in two hectares (five acres) with views over rolling countryside in all directions; nearest house (or building) 200 metres away.
This level site, nestling in a fertile area, is split reasonably evenly into informal lawned gardens with magnificent trees and three grazing fields.
We have its full documented history from 1461 in the form of a recently published book, specifically about the property; we know who lived here at what time, the professions their children took, the Heraldry of the past owners, what happened during the French Revolution and since then until now. It is both fascinating and comprehensive.
The property is ideally situated to providing holiday accommodation and has great potential. Family holidays, cycling holidays (the Tour de France usually passes close by), historical/wine/painting. We have been asked in the past if we would host historical re-enactments.
Local village 3kms, large market towns 12 kms, the wine regions of Macon-Chardonnay 30 mins, Bourgogne and Beaujolais 60 mins
Lyon airport 1 hr 15 mins, two peages each 15kms away, and the TGV at Macon, all provide easy access.
Geneva, Chamonix, Annecy, Lyon to name but a few can be visited for the day, although there is so much to do in the surrounding area.
The Manor consists of three large rooms on the ground floor, two of these with large open fireplaces, and three large rooms on the upper floor, which are accessed by two external staircases on the front of the building. The Manor has permission to be used for habitation, is in sound condition, and has been our labour of love. Our intention was not to use it as a home but to restore as a very rare original Manor House. There is a single storey later extension to the rear. The whole roof has been carefully restored, all the handmade tiles removed, sorted and replaced as necessary. The wattle and daub has been sympathetically repaired. There is more work to be done but with a building this beautiful it is both a pleasure and rewarding. The Manor was built using simple local materials, most of which we have in stock.
House 1 offers modern living with two outside terraces, one under cover, with separate kitchen area, offers shade from mid-morning, the second, on the other side, bathes in the afternoon and evening sun. The house has under floor heating, internet, satellite television, wood burning glass fronted fire, large reception room, lounge, a downstairs double bedroom, kitchen, walk in pantry, bathroom and separate toilet; upstairs the landing area, which we have used both as a study and an extra bedroom, leads to a lounge area, off which there is a large double bedroom and a very large family bedroom which would easily split into two large double bedrooms, a store/office and a toilet- which is big enough to make a second bathroom room. The upstairs does need finishing off but rest assured we have done the hard work!
There is an integral, very large, garage/workshop.
House 2 we have kept as more traditionally French, a very large lounge/dining room, three double bedrooms, bathroom/toilet, excellent sized kitchen. The upstairs of this house has not been converted into accommodation but would easily provide four double bedrooms. It also has a large garage and a very useful covered area in which we have parked two caravans before.
The outbuildings provide workshop and storage areas.
